Dartmoor Pony

Originating in the rough moorlands of Devon, England, the Dartmoor pony is a reliable riding companion with a plucky spirit. 

The treacherous weather of the moors shaped the Dartmoor up to be a pint-sized powerhouse, with endurance and a serene temperament.

Prehistoric tombs indicate the Dartmoor has been roaming the craggy moors since ancient times, but it wasn’t until the mid 20th century that the Winterwells imported the breed to Jorvik to join their Welsh ponies. 

With a compact yet hardy build, the Dartmoor has a history of being used in rugged labor such as mining. It might be surprising to learn that it is also an excellent competitor in the hunter/jumper and dressage rings, and is also a natural choice for pleasure riders.
